Rwanda Day to link Diasporans to career opportunities back home

This year’s edition of Rwanda Day which will take place on Saturday in the German city of Bonn will have a new feature of linking job seekers to job opportunities, organizers say.

The Career Speed Dating session will provide a platform for Rwandans living abroad to hear about career opportunities back home.

This year's edition will be held under the theme “Rwanda25: Owning our Future,” and it is expected that President Paul Kagame will be the chief guest.

It will be the 10th Rwanda Day since the inaugural event was held on December 4, 2010, in Belgium.

“This year there will be an exciting new feature at #RwandaDay called the “Career Corner” that offer activities to Young Professionals within the Rwanda Community Abroad, to inform them of job opportunities in selected companies & link them to Rwandans who recently returned home,” the organisers tweeted.

The ‘Career Corner’ booth will include a demonstration on how the Kora Job Portal, a matching platform established by the Rwanda Development Board with the aim of linking potential employees to job opportunities, works and how people can register for jobs.

It will also feature journeys of different Rwandan Professionals who recently returned home.

According to the RDB, the professionals will get the opportunity to meet and match up with 16 organisations seeking talent.

These companies are Bank of Kigali, I&M Bank, Carnegie Mellon University-Africa, Babyl, Cogebanque, Rwandair, Business Development Fund (BDF), Bridge 2 Rwanda, Study in Rwanda, Westerwell, Garden Fresh, BBOX, Andela, Mara Phones, Irembo and Davis College Rwanda Akilah Campus.

Top local artists to perform

This year’s edition is also set to be a spectacle as top local artists including traditional music icon, Butera Masamba Intore, commonly known as Masamba Intore and Jules Sentore are expected to give a great performance.

“We will have great entertainment from Bruce Melody, Jules Sentore, Masamba, Charly and Nina, King James, Itetero dancing troop, DJ Princess, Igor Mabano and Teta Barbara,” the Rwanda Day organisers tweeted.

Besides the fun and networking, a highlight of the day’s programme indicates that there will be exhibitions, discussions on culture and heritage, as well as on innovation and global connection, among others.
